So, I am constantly asked about what chores my kids do and how old they were when they started doing them.  Teaching your kids to do chores teaches them to be responsible, it teaches them that they are an important part of running the household, and it teaches them that we all need to help each other out.  Mom can't possibly do it all!

It's SOOOO close - the kitchen is {nearly} done!

OK...so, let's remember where my 

kitchen WAS about four months ago. 

Then, we tore down the wall.

And the other direction:

Now, look at it today!  It's HUGE.  I mean we had this dinky little dining room, 

and a dinky little kitchen!  

So, opening it up was a no-brainer! 

(Notice how squished we were up against the 

wall with our table, above).

Can you believe it?  It's SO much bigger!  Here are a few other photos...

There are a few things still needing to be done.

This is my updated buffet, with the matching cart (I painted that too and put a piece of remnant marble, as well).

 

Love having my cart to move next to the "new" vintage oven...since there is no 

where to put my utensils.

I'm trying out putting the trash can in here. 

So far, not so bad!

Yep, it's an empty wall!  This is the next project!

Here's a last look of before and after!  It's amazing how much bigger my "tiny" kitchen is now!

There's still more...Lord willing I'll have that blank wall done by next week!  And, I'll share what I did and how I did it, along with my other re-do of the kitchen cart.

So, I'm assuming that everyone has a computer....and that must mean that you have lots of email, blogging, and files to keep up with!  Then there are pictures, scanning, and files upon files from how many years ago?

Just for fun, take THIS quiz to see how organized you are!  Maybe you'll be surprised. Often people think I'm a perfectionist since I love to organize - but I'm NOT!  It's probably why I am able to get stuff done.  I want it done well, but it doesn't have to be perfect.  It just doesn't bother me.

It's really great to keep your home organized, but don't become so overly obsessed with having everything perfect that you either drive everyone nuts keeping it that way, or worse just give up because you can't obtain that!  Organizing is a daily mindset and something you just work at.  Some do it naturally and others  have to work a little more to keep the clutter at bay!

Facelift for the buffet!

Well, we've been busy getting the kitchen updated since July.  Yep, it's taking awhile, but progress is progress!  I have VERY little counter space.  So, this buffet had been sitting in our entryway (which fit perfectly there) for the last four years.  I moved it into the kitchen once we tore the wall down.

Filing is just a part of having a home and being grown up.  It's not just something you do AT an office job. It's crucial to keep important paperwork for your home, cars, appliances, and more!  It's important to keep that stuff organized and easily accessible.  I absolutely HATE filing...hate it!  But, it's necessary and it's important.  I also know that when hubby says "I need last year's tax return, please go get it?" or "I need the manual for the vacuum so I can fix it" -- that I can now confidently say I can find those!

Super trick for headbands

So...I had a reader who recently asked me about organizing her headbands.  I dug around and found THIS great blog with a super cute way to make your own headband organizer!  Check out it!

She first took an empty oatmeal container and some Modgpodge and two pieces of pretty 12 x 12 paper.

Slowly but surely, our kitchen is getting done.  We're trying to keep costs low and style up!  

Clean up your desk - are you ready? (Part 1) Organizing Your Office

OK, so my first question to you is - do you have a desk?  I bet most of us do - or perhaps something you use as a make-shift desk!  If not, that may be one of the first things you need to tackle.  If you are running your home, you need to have somewhere as your office - it may not be an "office" but it needs to be somewhere you can set up your computer, pay bills, keep track of files, all your paperwork (that's important).  We bought our current desk on Ebay about four years ago when we moved into our home. I just updated it with some new knobs and handles and it's very stylish and functional! Plus, it holds lots of stuff!

This is a great closing desk that's also pretty!

So, according to one of the polls we took back a month or so ago, one of the main areas that most of you struggle with is your office/desk area!  So...this month we're going to focus on that area!  Since we have FIVE Wednesdays this month, I'm going to take this week to ask you what is it that you need help with most in getting things organized in your office or on your desk?
